About Maps of Music
Maps of Music puts two maps of every album into one. Open circles mark the places the lyrics talk about; filled circles mark where the record was really made, photographed or played, and a curve joins each pair. So you can see, for example, that a song set in one city was written in another, and plan a visit to the real spot. The map now holds 1180 albums, each divided into its key places.
Pick an album in the list to see its places. Tap a place to show its lyric place and its real places on the map, show or hide the lyric places and the real places, replay the 3D view, or open the “Split view” to compare both maps side by side. Use “By city” to browse every album tied to one place, and “Favorites” to keep your own shortlist. Every place says how to get there, and imprecise spots are marked “approx.” or “city only”.
Every coordinate comes with a source, and invented places are marked as fictional. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons and other openly licensed sources, with the author and licence shown beside each one. Base maps are © OpenStreetMap contributors and OpenFreeMap. If you spot a mistake, tell us with the “Feedback” button.
