Thomas Lee Bass was born on October 3, 1962, in Athens, Greece, to an American U.S. Army sergeant father and a Greek mother.
The family moved back to the United States when he was about two and settled in California.
He dropped out of high school to pursue music, starting with the L.A. club band Suite 19.
In the late 1970s, Suite 19 played the Sunset Strip club circuit alongside Van Halen and Quiet Riot.
After London broke up in 1981, he and Nikki Sixx formed a new group, and Mötley Crüe was born with Mick Mars and Vince Neil.

Mötley Crüe built hit releases through the 1980s, including Shout at the Devil, Theatre of Pain, Girls, Girls, Girls, and Dr. Feelgood.
Lee was known for drum solo gimmicks such as a revolving kit and a kit suspended above the crowd.
His solo albums include Never a Dull Moment (2002), Tommyland: The Ride (2005), and Andro (2020).
He worked as an electronic dance music DJ with DJ Aero, playing club dates across North America.
He appeared on albums by Stuart Hamm, Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie, and Jack's Mannequin, and played on Smashing Pumpkins' Monuments to an Elegy.
He starred in the reality show Tommy Lee Goes to College and played the Devil in Halloween in Hell.
