Reception
At release
- Shifter's Kevin Bourne says Khalifa has returned to form as a solo artist
- Shifter: Khalifa brings his full repertoire to the project, explores different themes and sounds, and delivers a complete body of work
- Shifter singles out the groove of opener 'Big Daddy Wiz', which samples Cheryl Lynn's 'Got to Be Real'
- Shifter highlights '1000 Women' with saxophone and 'Keys', which sets storytelling against drill production
- Shifter notes closer 'Thank Him', where Khalifa discusses his faith in God
- Clash's Naima Sutton hears drill, hip-hop, pop, R&B, and a little 1980s synth influence
- Clash says some experimentation risks sounding out of place, citing 'We Don't Go Out to Nightclubs Anymore/Candlelight Girl'
- Clash argues the album cannot be called Khalifa's best work, but it still holds weight in his catalogue
- The Honey Pop's Kristian Gonzales hears hip-hop fused with 1970s-80s R&B and pop, possibly inspired by Childish Gambino and Tyler, the Creator
- The Honey Pop highlights the G-funk vibe of 'MVP', the pop balladry of 'Something Real', and the 1980s feel of 'Mirror Love (Groove 2)' with an electric guitar solo
