- Released by Parlophone on 19 October 2011 in Japan and 24 October 2011 in the rest of the world

Background
- The band worked closely with producer Brian Eno after their successful collaboration on Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008)
- The band had wanted the album to be more acoustic and more intimate than its predecessor
- They first tried to make two records, a stripped-down album and an electric one already called Mylo Xyloto, before deciding to combine them
- Drummer Will Champion said the band could not focus on more than one thing at once
- The album was originally set for a December 2010 release as a decade-ender, but was postponed to 2011
- Chris Martin said the album was based on a love story with a happy ending
