Reception
At release
- The Washington Post wrote that "the songs have been lovingly, painstakingly digitized and sequenced so as to create a coherent album of tender, touching acoustic folk and minimally orchestrated pop that spotlights Cassidy's talent."
- The review reads the album as one unified record rather than a loose set of leftover recordings.
- It singles out the acoustic folk and minimally orchestrated pop sound as the album's main character.
- The review says the sequencing and care of the digitization shape the listening experience.
Reappraisal
- Arun Starkey, writing for Far Out, said Cassidy's version of "Kathy's Song" could make a "strong claim to be better than the original."
- The comparison is aimed at one track, the Paul Simon song placed first on the album.
- The later assessment thus centers on Cassidy's interpretation of an existing song rather than on original material.
